A small shiver ran through Matt as he sat down at one of the cafeteria's many booth tables and placed a bowl of ramen and a small bag on the table. He had just returned from shopping for Valentine's Day gifts in the city. He had wandered from shop to shop for the better part of the morning looking for gifts to buy in the cloudy and cold weather. It didn't help that there had been plenty of wind coming from the sea, which only made the cold atmosphere seem even colder. Despite the hot steam rising up from the from his bowl of ramen, he still felt chilly from his day out in the cold.
In the end, the duelist had come to the conclusion that since his sister and the only person he knew at the academy, Roxanne, were duelists, it would be best to get them something related to Duel Monsters. His sister had gotten him a ghost rare copy of his favorite card, Stardust Dragon, so he had matched the gift with a ghost rare copy of her favorite card, Honest. he had left the card gift wrapped at their home before returning to the academy. For Roxanne, he had bought an ultimate rare copy of Scrap Dragon. He didn't know what kind of deck she played, but many decks ran the card, so he figured it was a safe buy.
Stirring his meal a bit, Matt lifted some of the noodles from the broth and took a bite. The hot food and broth made him feel warmer as it fell to his stomach. After taking a second bite of his lunch, the Osiris student looked at the small bag on the table that held the Scrap Dragon card he had bought. He was used to buying a lot more than just two presents, but his friends from his old school had all moved and he didn't know anyone else at the academy. The most interaction he had so far with other students besides his encounter with Roxanne was a few a insults from Obelisk students.
The thought of his lack of social interaction so far also brought to mind the upcoming Valentine's Dance. He had never gone to one before because he had never had a partner to go with. The fact that he didn't really know how to dance didn't help either. He had heard that there was going to be a sign up to be paired with another random person, though he wasn't sure if he liked the idea or not. What if he got paired with an Obelisk student? It'd probably be awkward for both of them and they probably wouldn't last more than a few minutes before she'd go off to find better company.
A third bite of his ramen flushed away the last bit of chill the cold weather had left him with. After wiping a bit of broth from his red blazer, Matt glanced around the large room. A duel had started in the main arena in the center of the room between an Obelisk and an Osiris. The student let the thoughts about the dance slip from his mind as he took another bite of his food and watched the duel. There wasn't much for him to do but eat his lunch and watch the duel.

Sahtra entered the cafeteria in uniform: that ugly designed thing... Her hair was up in a bun that had the ends sticking up about an inch or two from the bun like a flame. Her bangs were free of course along with the blue strands that now framed her face. Her make-up was light: a dark red lipstick and some eye liner and mascara. Her nails were painted a light purple today with yellow tips. She had come from a private lesson with a teacher to make up for some classes she missed and with so much learning, she was mildly hungry. She looked over the lunch choices and settled for the least messy of the foods: a salad, no dressing. She avoided toppings that would affect her breath, but grabbed most of the others: tomatoes, croutons, shredded cheese, a bit of olives... To drink? Water. She ate healthy to keep her figure and out of practice. If she was still hungry later, she'd just go out to get more food--at a cafe or something. Now came a challenge: finding a place to sit. Some of the older students didn't like her because of past events, and others loved to sit with her but they were tiresome. She scanned for new faces. She spotted an Osiris Red watching one of the duels and made her way over, a small polite smile on her face. She stood to the side, lady like and manners accounted for. "May I sit here?"The British accent was clear in her light hearted tone.

After downing a fourth mouthful of ramen, a small sigh escaped Matt as he watched the duel progress. Although they were only a few turns in, it was clear that the Obelisk duelist wasn't taking the duel seriously. The higher ranking student was only toying with his struggling opponent. The duel served as another reminder as to why Osiris students were treated so poorly by the most of the Obelisk students. A few Ra students acted the same way, but he had noticed that the middle dorm was mostly friendly with the lower dorm. After a few minutes of spectating the duel, Matt turned his attention away from the duel in time to notice a female Ra student approach his table and ask to sit down.
"Oh... Go ahead." Matt responded after a moment. He hadn't expected anyone to join him for lunch at all. Most of the students he saw had come to lunch in pairs or with small groups to talk with while they ate. He removed the bag containing the cards he had bought from the table and moved his own bowl closer to him to make more room for the other student. He didn't want to appear rude by crowding the table with his things. He carefully placed the bag in a hard cover textbook so that the cards inside wouldn't get bent if someone bumped into or stepped on his backpack by mistake.
The Osiris student took another bite of his ramen and turned his gaze back towards the duel once he was finished making room for the Ra student. Though he had no problem letting the other student sit with him, he wasn't sure what else he could talk with her about. He wondered if she had chosen to sit with him because she couldn't find anywhere else to sit or if she wanted to talk to him. Though as he looked around, he absently noted that there were plenty of empty tables around. After watching the Osiris duelist activate Magic Cylinder, Matt decided he'd try to strike up conversation. The worst that could happen was her telling him to be quiet.
"So, what brings you to this table?" Matt asked out of curiosity. It wasn't very often someone he didn't know asked to join him for lunch.

Sahtra took a seat and crossed her legs, sitting a bit sideways to give herself plenty of leg room. She looked at the duel and shook her head. You would think the Obelisk would end it quickly--if not for decency then to not take time out of his day. She turned to her salad when the Osiris spoke. "You seemed lonely by yourself so I decided to come over."She said it with a smile and offered her hand, palm down for the forma hand shake that she always used. "My name is Sahtra Terabell. Are you a new student here?"She hadn't seen him for the year she had been here, so she couldn't say for sure or not if he was a class under her or not. While she waited for a response, she took a bite of her salad. It was... decent, but she wasn't too happy on the quality of freshness.
