Personality: The first thing that most people think of when they see Dick Grady is “delinquent”. And they’d be correct in that assumption. Dick is a troublesome lad. Whenever he speaks, his voice is loud, and his choice of words is colorful. If the boy is angry, he will let it show. Whether through yelling or violence, Dick will make no effort to hide his anger, and will take it out on the source, no matter how dangerous it is. On a lighter note, however, Dick will often pull pranks or trick others. However, these pranks are normally minor in nature, and he takes care not to hurt others too badly.
However, despite his troublesome ways, there is good in Dick. Judging from his loud voice and ability to speak up, he is an extrovert. If he wants or needs something, he won’t be afraid to approach the person he would have to talk to. Despite his violent ways and tendency to get into scraps, his intentions are normally good. The fights he has been into in the past were either in self defense, or in the defense of someone else. To those who he manages to befriend, he will be loyal to them. Unless it were a very good reason, he wouldn’t even consider betraying them.
History: Dick Grady was born in Detroit, Michigan to Veronica and Alex Grady. Veronica was a former pro circuit duelist in the United States, eventually settling down in Detroit. Alex had no background in Duel Monsters, instead he was a regular beat cop in Detroit. The two of them met by chance in a doughnut shop in their early twenties. Eventually, the two fell in love and got married, having one child, Dick Grady.
Veronica became a stay at home mother while Alex continued serving the Detroit PD. While young, his mother introduced him to Duel Monsters, teaching him the basics of the game. However, it was his father that had the biggest influence on him. Despite being a cop in one of the shittiest cities in America, the man was still a respectable cop. And while he was a harass of sorts, he taught Dick a lot of what he knows today, even instilling a sense of justice in him.
Growing up in Detroit was rather rough for the boy. Aside from the rampant crime that ran through the city, Dick was placed in a bad school. Bullies ran rampant, and teachers did little to stop them, whether out of fear or apathy. Dick would often end up getting into fights with bullies, whether to defend himself or other people being bullied. Sometimes he’d walk out victorious, while other times he’d end up biting off more than he could chew, and as such got his ass kicked.
Besides taking justice into his own hands, Dick was known to pull a few pranks. While annoying, his pranks and tricks were nothing malicious. However, they did often get him into a bit of trouble, much to the ire of his father, and entertainment of his mother.
Recently, his mother arranged for her son to go to Duel Academy. While it wasn’t exactly what he wanted to do in life, he really didn’t have much of a say. And unlike his mother, he didn’t really engage in the activity too much, and thus his placement exam put him in Ra Yellow. However, he was quite happy with his placement, and his mother was just happy he at least got into Ra, and not into Osiris. However, his mother would expect him to make it to Obelisk at some point, constantly sending him messages asking if he had made it or not.
